Hello all, Central Florida here,

I just purchased a new KeyLargo 190 w/ Merc 150, It's my first and we are planning on taking it out saturday morning. We are syched!

My question is, does the bill of sail act as registation until you get the real registration?

The dealer said it will come in about a week and then I get my numbers for the boat, but in the meantime to use the bill of sale and all will be fine. is this correct?

Thanks , Mike

Re: Boat registration

Hi Mike:

Since the state does not issue a "temporary tag" for boats like they do for cars, you will need the bill of sale to verify, if stopped by the Fish and Wildlife, the local sheriff or FDEP's marine patrol, that you just bought the boat.

We live in Orange City and I will tell you now should you take the boat out on the St. Johns, any of the popular lakes in Orange or Lake counties, or the Indian River that these bodies of water are patrolled by the local SO and the Florida Marina Patrol during the weekends. This is especially true when the weather gets warm, such as tomorrow.

The dealer should have had you fill out a gaggle of paper work which included the registration. Did you remember doing this????

Have a great time - don't speed in the manatee zones - they will ticket you.

Bob

Re: Boat registration

Mike - Congrats on your new boat!!! :) The vessel is required to have registration numbers on the hull. It isn’t up to Florida…federal regulation. The boat is really going to stick out without the appropriate numbers and registration sticker attached so have your safety gear in order because you are likely to be inspected.

Yep.. Bill of sale is ok, but you'll be a definate target of any officer...

Rabbit's right! Better cross your T's and dot your i's with reguards to your safety gear...

Re: Boat registration

Well we did it, took our new boat out for its maiden voyage and it was a perfect day all the way around. Weather was great and no problems with the boat or first mate(wife)lol....

I did get pulled over by the Sheriffs Dept. marine unit because of no ##'s on the hull and they did a safety inspection that we passed with flying colors and told me that I had 30 days to register and get the ##'s on the boat... Life is grand!

now if only I didnt have to work tomorrow I would be able to put anotherr 3.2 hours on the boat.

Now I know you all have seen the movie "Finding Nemo", My wife has nicknamed the boat "The Butt". I f you seen the movie you know what I mean..

Happy Boating

Mike
It's always better down where it's wetter!
