We left the drain plug in over the winter, and now boat is filled with water and we cannot get the drain plug out. We have tried using a wrench and hammer, but it won't budge. It just seems to be frozen. Any ideas???

Re: Stuck Drain Plug

You are going to have to give us a tad more info before we can help. eg type boat? type plug? inside or out?

Re: Stuck Drain Plug

You might have to drill the plug out from the outside and buy a new one...should have extra drain plugs anyhows...just a Thought
ps...don't use an electric drill for the shock value...

Take the nut off of it and remove all the metal hardware then knock the rubber plug out, might try spraying some wd40 on it. Hope this helps.

Re: Stuck Drain Plug

I have had some luck with "frozen" brass plugs in the past by soaking them in a solution of kettle de-scaler. I wouldn't use it if the hull were aluminium however but then you shouldn't have a brass plug in an aluminium boat anyway. Be wary though as kettle descaler is acid so use at your own risk.

I take it that your boat is full of water on land. Otherwise I wouldnt drill out the plug. But I assume you alraedy knew this ;) But if it were me I'd just drill it out and tap out the guts.
Stainless plugs are pretty good. But like all boat parts, they require a little tlc every now and then.
Randycc58

Re: Stuck Drain Plug

Just had the same experience with a brass plug, myself. Thought I was a champ at getting stuck things unstuck, but this one turned me into a chump. Tried everything- solvent, heat, shock, etc. Finally took the whole thing out and started over with a new one. Would have saved a lot of time and aggravation if I'd done this to start with.
