OMC hyd to mech shift conv box swappers question

I'm curious...<br />why does the shift converter box change from hydro to mech?<br />is it the cable that's different?<br />hydromechanical units had an ESA and switches, no?

No, they did not. It is my understanding that the converter box operates bass ackwards from the later mechanical version.<br /><br />I also think that the O/D shift cable is different, but not positive on that.

Best I know<br />Converter box was mecanical shift.Before that it was electric shift,and no box.<br /><br />DHP

Hydro-mechanical and mechanical 800's used shift converters. They are different.

The shift cable for the mechanical shift has 2 lines on the one end. The hydro-assist gearcase shifts opposite of the mechanical one. Don't get the cables or converters mixed up or you may have fun trying to back off the trailer at the ramp.

completly different cables. The Mech is about $360, the hydro about $150. Do you need a hydro box?

#982951 is the Hydro-assist shift cable $369.84<br /><br />#982563 is the mechanical shift cable $329.13
