OMC Cobra Clicking when decelerating....

I have a 1986 Wellcraft with a 4.3 OMC Cobra outdrive.

When we are cruising, or even barely on plane, and I quickly pull back the throttle to idle (still in gear) there is a fierce clicking sound from the drivetrain, with vibrations that I can feel in the throttle handle. If I leave it in gear, the unit is actually not engaged, and the clicking continues. If I put it in neutral, it goea away, and I can place it back into gear with no problems.

I've been in OMC Sterndrives (800 series) and Mercruisers that allow you to pull back into idle, then back to full throttle with no issues.

Whats up with that?

Sounds like where you are putting it to "idle" is at the engage\disengaged threshhold. You need to adjust the shifter cable or not pull that far back on throttle when you want to idle.

-JMW
