Which is the prefered intake for the Vortec heads?

I had the high rise for the non-Vortec heads.

Is a high rise better?

I was loooking at the Edelbrock .

I also saw a cast iron high rise .

Here is another ........This looks like the one I had originally.

Does the high rise produce more torque or HP?
Which would be better for marine performance?
The Edelbrock is cheapest....

Re: Vortec Intake Manifold

I use a Edelbrock "air-gap". I have used them on two boats now and have never been happier with a intake. I would stay away from cast iron due to the weight alone but there is some here that wouldn't use anything else.

Doesn't look like the "air-gap" is available for the Vortec heads.

Hi Tony,......

You're looking for a Mid-rise,... or High-rise,.....

The High-rise is More for HP than torque,.....Of Course,...HP is a mathamatical # found using the Torque #s...
The Higher the Rise,.. The Powerband Will be moved Up the RPM Scale,.......
The Vortec heads Ports are Already .200" Higher than the original.......

Any of them will work Just Fine,...... As long as it's a Dual-Plane Manifold...........
A Single Plane manifold will Kill the Low-end Torque..............
Dual-plane Vs. Single-plane is More important than How High the Rise Is..........
The Edlebrock will work Just Fine....

BTW,...... I had No Luck finding the .018 Headgaskets I found the other nite,... I'll try again tonite........

Re: Vortec Intake Manifold

Thanks Bondo....I pulled the engine today.....what a job!

Tomorrow I plan on replacing the pan and rear seal. Should I pull the pan first and then the rear seal? I removed the bolts from the rear seal retainer. Now the engine is on a stand and it won't be too easy to get to those bolts again. I hope when I remove the pan the rear seal comes out easy.....

As far as the inatke is concerned....I think I like the aluminum high rise......

How much HP do you think the set-up will make?

I am thinking 310+.......judging from what else I have seen with the new Vortecs.......

Tony,

If you boat in salt dont use the aluminum manifold. The salt will eat it quickly and deposit aluminum oxide all over your cast iron parts. I was strongly warned before I bought mine but I boat 100% in fresh water.

OOPS, I forgot you have a closed system with anti freeze so you should be fine. Sorry.

I worked the last week and a half from my China based factory. I watched your posts on the heads and gaskets (hope Bondo found the one your looking for) and the oil pan and all. You are into a heck of a job. Mine went easier. Be careful playing with the quench height though as the intake manifold may not bolt straight on with non standard thickness gaskets. Good luck!!

Re: Vortec Intake Manifold

Hey freebeetony; What's the RPM range of those manifolds you mentioned? I thought that if your motor is within the range it's the right setup.
