I have a 2.5l in an 1987 Bayliner Capri that is taking on water something fierce where the motor mounts to the boat. It's a problem I can't deal with right now and was just going to put it aside but when I changed the motor oil and sparked it up for the final winterization steps I noticed water in my fresh oil. My question is... Would I be able to just pull the plug and let all the oil drain and just leave it sit like that until I can get back at it or do I need to have oil in the pan for it's hibernation?

Thanks

You can pull the plug to drain the contaminated oil out but make sure you also pour some fresh oil through to move out any water that is in valve covers etc..,If the drive is off you can drain and refill with oil and run the motor for a minute without water going to it and you will be fine for temporary storage.Running the motor will get frsh oil to where it should be.Charlie

you have 2 problems. one is most likly a bad drive bellows, that may be the leak where the motor mounts. we need a better desciption of that leak. remember anything that is stored with moisture where its not supposed to be will usually be junk by spring.

water left in the gimbal to rust all winter will triple the removal time. occasionally requireing the engine to be removed to drive the assy off the transom from the inside.
