Hi, I have a question for the volvo guys out there. I have a 1986 Searay 17'B rider that i want to transplant a 302V8 and aq200 outdrive in to. The boat HAD a 3L and alpha 1 drive in it. I know the transom mounts are different and need to know where i need to have the cavitation plate in relation to the bottom of the hull. In line or below the hull, if below how far? Thanks

You want the Cavitation Plate At or Above the Keel Line on a Planing Hull..........

Usually between Dead Even,+ about an Inch Above,..............

This holds true for about All Outdrives,+ Outboard Motors...........

Thanks for the reply. I was told by a local johnson dealer that the cav plate should be 1 to 1.5" below the hull. I just wanted to make sure i put it in there right. just curious where he came up with that info!

Lots of difference between a Johnson outboard and an OLD Volvo outdrive. Keep the cavitation plate between even and a half inch above.
