I have a 1986 Mercriuser 260 V8 engine that is not throwing any spark. I pull the spark plug wire and no spark, I pull the center plug wire coming from the ignition coil and no spark, I replace the ignition coil with another coil and still NO SPARK. There are no loose wires that I can see. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: No spark

Check for voltage at the + side of the coil. Could be a bad resistor wire, shift interupter switch or ignition switch. Just changing parts without trouble shooting first is not the way to find the problem, just the way to spend money.

Re: No spark

You dont state if its "thunderbolt" ign. or coil/points. Also some high energy systems have caused the rotor to "hole thru" and ground out the spark.if it is electronic ,check the ground wire at the pack itself for corrosion or looseness.may be a bad trigger assembly in the dist.can be a bad tach causing no spark also.follow buttanic, get a manual, test equipment and do some basic electrical tests.
