Mercruiser 5.0mpi wont start

I have a 2004 model Mercruiser 5.0mpi. After 20 hrs had difficulty starting when hot. Started by missing when accelerating from idle, then got worse until eventually wouldnt start. Agent diagnosed low fuel pressure and replaced fuel pump. Now after another 20 hrs, same problem is reaccuring any ideas??seems unlikely 2 fuel pumps would fail in 40hrs. Feels like vapourization, but im no expert

Well Roger,......<br /><br />Now that the Mods are done bouncing your post around,.........<br /><br />I'd be looking at the Fuel System,...... Up-Stream from the Fuel Pump...........<br /><br />If there's a Restriction in the Tank, or Lines,........<br />Your Fuel Pump will be Laboring Exccessively,.......<br />And could cause Premature Failure.........<br />As well as the Symptoms you describe.........

maybe somewhere i line is crimped, or has a kink in it, either feeding the fuel pump, or return line, causing the pump to work harder. maybe something hidden that the boat factory did.... check all lines visually....

Do you have a serial number handy for your engine?<br />While it does sound like a restricted fuel supply, I'd like to check something else, and Mercruiser doesn't list there engines by year. Only by serial number.

Thanks guys<br />The boat is at the agents now. If it was a restricted fuel supply, surely the problem would appear more frequently.. I should add, it was as hot as ... when the prob developed,, maybe 42 degrees C.. but my friend has exactly the same boat and we always boat together and he has no problem
