Hi I have a mercruiser 140 engine and leg (apparently the 140 leg is a early alfa it has two hoses going into each ram) my rams were leaking hydrolic fluid at the seams so I brought some brand new ram casings and the shop put my old innards in and all new seals etc I fitted them to my leg and filled the reseivour up inside the boat with proper hydrolic fluid etc I was told at the shop that it was all self bleeding etc so I started with the leg in the down position I pressed both buttons on the controller to bring the leg fully up {worked a dream} went up faster then it ever has I topped the resevoiur back up and went to put the leg down when I pressed the down button I could hear the pump working but the leg only went down about 2 inchs then came back up I tried this a few times and it just kept doing the same thing any ideas as to what the problem could be?
also the up button on my controller does not work it did before I took the rams off. To get it all the way up I pressed the up and the trailer button any help would be much appreciated many thanks garry

I'm not sure but you might want to check that you installed the hydraulic lines correctly.

Re: MERCRUISER 140 TRIM/TILT

ya didn't say what year it is. my 72 is not self bleeding, so ya might find out the year and confirm that notion, self bleeding or not. also, i think ya fill up the resivor when the trim is down, not up. if ya fill it when it's up the trim rams are full and the resivoiur empty, when ya go down, perhaps there is no where for the fluid to go as the resivour is all ready full. maybe it's overfull. do ya have a book on it? that may help. ya also say that ya put the correct hyd. fluid in it. my correct hyd. fluid is just reg. ol 30w oil.. i'm just throwing some ideas out there as i have no idea about yer rig......

Ayuh,.........

That's My 1st Guess...........

As for the Trim/Up problem,.......
I'd guess that you Broke a wire going to the Limit Switch while you were Fixing the Rams......
