took for test run yesterday. did not run hot. engine was good. boat would not get out of the hole. don't know if i have a water logged hull or and outdrive problem. engine problems seem to be solved. 1998 18' Aquatron 4.3 LX GEN+ 0K009133, OD 0K0633237. Checked OD for water, before and after. clean. did not check for spun prop. also posted on Main. forum. i am going to the weight station this week to have it weighed.

Re: wouldn't get out of the hole

sounds like a spun prop to me i just had that same thing happen to me last week when i tested my project boat. and it was a spun prop. to test for spun prop without engine running put boat in gear, grab prop and try to spin it in the opposite direction of whichever way it would be normally rotating in that gear.if it moves its spun if it dont its good.

Re: wouldn't get out of the hole

If your rpm went way up but the boat didn't go, then you could have a spun prop (or coupler) causing the problem. But if the engine never gained rpm and stayed at a low rpm then you have another problem.
Could be even the wrong sized prop. Since you had it all apart, did you reset the timing and check the advance timing?
Here are some things to start eliminating.

reset timing and advanced. was out mess around just now. shifted into reverse (no running) turned prop and it clicks either direction. noticed yesterday i didn't have much pull in reverse, but it's a lot bigger boat to reverse than i'm use to. my remote shifter-throttle was extremely hard to operate. i check cable postions before going out. power steering cylinder moves bow to stern just a little when turning, and when it does it rubs the Y pipe.

Re: wouldn't get out of the hole

You really need to answer the question regarding the rpm's.

Did the rpm's go up and the boat didn't move properly?

no the rpm's did not go up. don't believe i have a water logged hull as i check tongue weight yesterday, at only 180 LBS. on a 2100 lb boat. going to do more investigating today as weather will be better. thanks all. prop mich. wheel 14X19 alum.

Re: wouldn't get out of the hole

it's a 181:1,, all 6, but found what was predicted by DonS a long time age. the 3" exhaust will not work on the vortec it had sucked back water. putting old batwings back on, from there i don't know.

Doesn't tongue weight depend on the position of the axle(s) relative to the front to rear bias of the trailer ? In therory if your axle(s) was slid forward too far,you could have an almost 0lb. tongue weight. Wouldn't you have to have a tongue weight of a long time ago to compare it to now?

I think you posted to the wrong thread Sandpaperman, this thread has nothing to do with trailering.

No, he said he determined that he didn't have a waterlogged hull by having a 180lb. tongue weight. I was just trying to say that tongue weight can be manipulated.
