How in the hell did this thing just sit there for 10 YEARS! WTF...I'm bustin my arse tearing apart and rebuilding my boat right now but at the end of the day I'm still going to have an 88 Bayliner! You mean to tell me the gel is still there and the damn thing ran after 10 years of sitting! I can't imagine what you must have thought when he finally said yes, I'll sell it to you. I'll be you ran with it like a scalded dog! Like finding a muscle car intact, in a barn, that still runs!

I am a huge Chris Craft fan, grew up on a 1962 28' Citation Cabin Cruiser with twin 283's, wow you should have seen the heads turn when I lit those motors up, VVaaavvooommm!!!

Keep us posted please!

Hey Mercrewser, were you able to get up on plane. How fast did it go? SPECTACULAR boat, by the way.

1969 Commander. Got it up to 3000 RPM. It planed at 2500 or so. It wouldve gone faster, but the fuel pump died. I want to replace one of the risers before I run it again, it has an external crack and its making me nervous. The only real problem I have is trying to get the Nautolex floor to lay nicely.

Smooth as a babies bottom, sand and prep, fill voids and gaps. Prep is everything. Did it have aluminum or SS 1/4" trim for the edges? If not it's recommended and Chris Craft standard issue. Some of it will relax after a few days in the sun but it must be smooth underneath or all the defects will show through.

I am working on a 1987 230 Mercruiser that was sitting up for atleast 10 years . I thought the motor was locked up but to my suprise the belts had become stuck to the pully.I removed the belts and the engine turned over freely.

Here's a old trick for loosening up a dry engine, one you can fill up the intire motor with diesel fuel and a more radical solvent is automatic transmission fluid.

The diesel will take about a month, the tranny fluid will take only days. Be ready for a few oil changes errr flushing's, that is if it works flush the motor until you oil is clear. Those two solvents will loosen everything in the motor.

Hey Merc,

One more thing...I found a clear plastic lens polishing compound at the Auto store, made by Meguiar's (trusted). This is made for those popular clear plastic headlamp covers, plexi etc. It contains miropolishers that clean up old faded plastic etc. Worked wonders on my wife's old mini-van headlamps. Assuming the windshield is made of similar materials you might try a test patch to clean up that windshield. I'm told you can use it with a buffer for an even better result. Go slow and see if it works!
