The battery in our used 19' Four Winns is not original and (probably) should be replaced before that first day of summer arrives..I am not running much for elecronics, except for the basic gages and depth sounder, plus cd and radio.(Rarely used)

Looking for some good advice on dual purpose replacment..CA?..CCA?..etc. Is it wise to spend the exta $$ to go with a brand that lasts longer etc? Thanks in advance! Jon

5.0 liter Volvo Penta

I'd take it to WalMart and check the cells. If one is dead, replace with same type. Should be a stamp on top with year it was put in. 5 years is about the most I have ever gotten out of one, regarless of brand.

Re: Basic Battery Question?

They're generally available in Regular Duty, Heavy Duty, and Extra Heavy Duty. I'd use the XHD in anything with an EFI. HD for most applications. RD is good enough for 4-bangers. It never hurts to run a stronger battery than called for. In a situation where a battery has pumps and other stuff to power on a regular basis, I advise a 27-series dual purpose marine battery. You want a starting only battery.

Re: Basic Battery Question?

What does the manufacturer have to say about the size of battery the boat came with?
