I'm replacing my Chev 305 with a Ford 351 and was wondering what I need to do to mate with my existing Mercruiser outdrive. Will a OMC bellhousing bolt up to a Mercuiser and what spline coupler would I need?

No, OMC bellhousing won't work, not even close. For that matter, the Chevy bellhousing, inner transom shield, exhaust Y, and splined shaft on outdrive, plus the coupler on the engine are different. Then you run into the shift interrupt system for the ignition.

Could you tell me what I would need and do to complete this swap?

You need to stick with a Chevy....
Get a 350 & all of the parts from your 305 should work....
You would need a donor 302/351 mercruiser, besides the 351 that you all ready have to make it work....
Stick with the Chevy, it will be cheaper ;) ....JK

I already have the 351 and would like to use it.
It's brand new with dyno time on it only.

Sell it & buy a Chevy....Unless your boat was set up for a Ford configuration you will have alot of work & new parts in your future....
But for arguements sake is this a complete marinized 351?...
When I say complete, I mean from the oil pan to the carb. & everything in between....Water pump, alternator, ect....
If you do not have all of that stuff, you will spend a fortune trying to make it work.......JK
BTW, since I have a Ford powered Sea Ray, I might be able to find a home for it :D
If you look in the 'search' function this topic has been discussed before....You should have a look.....

The exhaust manifolds alone for a Ford small block will set you back what you could build a bad a$$ 350 for.

Re: Mating a Ford 351 to Mercruiser Outdrive???

The other guys are right. I bleed Ford blue, and have a Mercruiser/Ford combo that I have been completely through and love it, but a 350 will make gobs of cheap power and simply bolt in.

To complete the 351 swap, you would need to find a '72-'77 boat or parts from one that had an 888 or 233. The 888 was a 188hp 302 and the 233 was a 351, I believe they use the same bellhousing. These show up on e-bay quite often for ~$100. As others have said, the Y pipes are spaced differently, the mounts will likely be in the wrong places (fiberglass work!), different coupler ($200), manifolds ($600 or so unless you get some Hi-Tek stainless ones. Sweet, but at over $1200, they are not cheap. Not shure, but the input shaft on the drive may be a different length. Also be careful with that coupler, I know someone that has a built Ford smallblock that kept stripping stock couplers. He has lots of $$$ in that motor. I think he ended up having a Bravo couple machined to bolt to his engine.

I would drop a nice 350 in there and rip. The parts are cheaper to get.

OK You all talked me out of it. I'll just keep the 351 for something else and run the 305 untill it blows, then get a 350.

You could always ship that 351 to me and I'll try it out for ya :D

Unfortunately, my #1 drive might not survive.....
