tipitina,

According to the NADA Guide, your motor's dry weight is 300#.

Tcube

Re: removing the motor?

Two things that I've used are
1. A motor hoist - I have an automotive hoist with a double action cylinder that works great.
2. A tractor with a bucket on front - my 20 HP Kubota tractor will lift 700 or 800 lbs no sweat.
Failing either of those maybe a come-along off a tree branch?
Hope this helps.

Re: removing the motor?

I made a support to lift my motor out of 3 landscape timbers, part of a sheet of 1/2 inch cdx plywood and a $9 cable come-along. The upper corners of the upright were braced with 18" triangles to spread the load. For the base I used plywood triangles 18" high and 60" across. Cheap, efficent, and it worked for me. There was a photo of one some guy posted. That is where I got the design.

Re: removing the motor?

Tipitina I have removed the same motor as you from my speedboat several times. I put the motor under my Garage door header, into which I have screwed a 1/2" lag bolt. I use a cheap block and tackle which I fasten to the lag bolt and to the motor's flywheel. I have used double plumbers strap to attack the block and tackle to the flywheel, by bolting the strap to the flywheel using two of the 5/16 fine thread bolts that hold the outer part of the flywheel to the center.
Simply trim the motor down, pull the block and tackle tight, loosen the motor's mounting bolts and jack up the trailer tongue to drop the transom.

Alternatively, that motor can be disassembled into upper and lower unit with just a few bolts. This makes it lighter and easier to store as well.

Having a lifting ring that screws into the flywheel will be a BIG help here. I made one for about a buck, although mercury sells them for about $40.

I got a nut at the hardware store the same size as my flywheel nut, and then welded an eye bolt on top of that. :)
