Have to replace Mercruiser manifolds and risers, and circulating pump. Should I stay OEM or can I save a few bucks my going aftermarket. I don't want to penny wise, dollar foolish.

OEM's use parts as a profit center. Boat dealers do too, some charging more than MSRP. Some third parties offer better warranties and in some cases, better product and almost always a better price.

I work in the electronic/electrical parts aftermarket. You would be surprised at the amount of 3rd party goods that are being manufactured by the same factory that produced the original. I highly doubt marine parts are any different.

I love aftermarket, but for many of my '73 OMC applications, I just feel better (and spend much more $$$) going with OEM ...

Like the manifold I just got... Barr was like $300 and OEM (the one I had to get) was $600!!!!

I am sure most non OEM parts are fine but I always seem to get the part that almost fits as well as the original but not quite. I tend to buy OEM as well and keep receipts so when I come to sell hopefully people see that as a good thing.

The only aftermarket part that I would ever question are these outdrive kits, complete and shipped to your door, for like 1100 bucks. Although I have a handfull of friends, with relatively beefed up engines install them and never EVEr have problems, it makes you wonder how one company charges 1100 shipped brand new, and merc wants 3800-4800. Go figure...ur gonna pay for that name.

Ebay sellers with good feedback....its the ONLY place I would buy manifolds. I got a SUPER Deal off of someone there (think Fred)

On the exhaust manifolds, you can go with Osco, Barr which are made in USA, then there is GLM, HGE, which is made in China, Sieria Brand manifolds I don't know where they are made, I have HGE manifolds on my boat, and they fit my Volvo SBC perfectly, and had no problems when running the boat, if I can get 4-5 years out of them, I'll be happy, the engine water pump, I used Sieria brand water pump, haven't had any problems, I've bought all of this from E-bay and have been happy with the venders
