Has anyone ever seen such a thing? It would sure be a godsend for me (and many others I suspect), as I need to raise my whole engine cover everytime I need to change it (usually twice a day), and moving it isn't an option.

You would think in today's electronic world, it wouldn't take that much to create one would you :p

Why isn't moving an option? I move them all the time. All it takes is longer and maybe larger size cables. I have mounted them in cabins, inside cockpit lockers, installed behind opening deck plates etc. to make access easier.

Re: Remote controlled Battery Switch?????

Thanks for the help Don S :)

the switch is on the front (bow direction) wall of the engine compartment, and it's built into the fuse panel, so I would have to change every wire. The batteries are just to the right on the starboard side. and wouldn't lengthening the cables (10'to inside the cabin) reduce the draw power anyway, even with heavier cables?

If you go longer, then yes you would have to go to a larger gauge size that keeps things equal.
You only need to make 3 wires larger, the 2 postitive leads going to each battery, and then add a new one from the common on your NEW battery switch to the common on the old one which you leave in your panel (It just won't be used.
What size cables do you have now, and how much longer will the cables have to be? You might find it easier to move it do a different but easier to get to than going a very long way from it.

Re: Remote controlled Battery Switch?????

Thanks for the input Don S, I'll check out the boat again, and see what my options can be. I guess moving anywhere above the engine compartment makes it alot easier to get to. The ideal place in the cabin though would involve up to 10' of wire. would that be too much? And just to be clear, I would have to "replace" the whole wire from start to finish, not just "add" an extension with a nut and bolt?. Thanks ;)

No you don't bolt onto the old cables. Nuf Said on that.

Below is a chart on how to figure size. What you will be running into will be a little different. You will be using your old battery switch as a terminal block. So you must figure the length of cable from each battery to the new switch, then from the new switch common to the the old switch common. That will be the length of 1 positive cable. After figuring the size of both batteries, just use the larger as the one from the new switch to the old switch.

Once you start pricing that cable, you will see why I said make it as close as possible to the old switch, but still more accessable.
Not being able to see what you have makes it hard to say exactly. I'm sure if I was there it would be a 5 minute process to figure out a good place. Add a couple of beers, could run it to at least an hours worth of different possibilities :D
