v8 mercruiser removal replacement

Tryint to remove-replace 5.7 l, It looks to me like it would be a lot easeir to premount the y pipe to the transom plate, then drop motor in--is this common practice? thanks for putting up with me guys<br />hud

the Y pipe is already mounted to the transon plate.need to pull the drive, remove exaust clamps,rear mounting bolts, front mounts, cables,wiring ,install lift chain and pull up and out.once reinstalled ,check alignment and install drive

Engine out 11 am , memphis time, total time for removal 1 hr 20 min<br />thanks guys<br />hudman

we have air powered tools available, but not air powered brains!!

yeah ive got it down to a science probably could do it without even takin the drive out!!! small blocks big blocks .. i take about 40 minswith wrenches and wratchets!! :)
