would anyone care to venture a guess on how much a 1977 chevy 350 weights? this is with the manifolds, heads and accessories (alternator, fuel/water seperator, and power steering pump) removed. Just the block, pistons and crank shaft.

Re: engine weight

Dry weight for the complete engine is 402 lbs. Heads, intake, carb, manifolds and accessories off would probably still leave about 250 - 275 lbs. Maybe.

Re: engine weight

Probably about 300-350 lbs would be my guess. I think that 402 for a complete motor is low. Ford 302's weigh more than that. But then I'm just guessing.

Re: engine weight

I use an old v-8 block, it may be a chrysler 318, for a mooring. It's just the block with the crank in it and all pistons, I can pick it up deadlift so I'd say around 170-200 lbs from knowing what I could lift in my younger years. Maybe I'll weigh it if i get a chance.

I think a Short Block would be in the 300+ range........

I agree with Bondo (give or take a bit). A fully dressed 350 auto engine is in 550# range.

Not sure about a 350 bowtie, but a 302 Ford with a #1 drive, fully dressed, is listed at 984lbs dry according to my boat mfgr is 1976.
