OMC Electrical Help Needed

So I get my alternator rebuilt, put it back on and I have no power to any of my gauges or switches, double checked all my alternator connections and still the same, no power. The trim solenoid has power as well as the starter solenoid, the purple black wire on the starter solenoid does not have power. When I check the fuse block I have a little power then it fades to no power, I need some ideas as for were to look. FWIW there are four wires on the alternator, orange to postive terminal, solid purple to EXC terminal, purple w white stripe to Ind Light Terminal and pink w purple stripe to S terminal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your battery charged? Anything at all work...blower...bilge pump.

Did you check your manual to make sure you connected the right wires up?

It is possible that your alternator has a short in it and blew the fuse that applies it its excite voltage or the fuse blew because you mis-wired your alternator. If you connected the excite wire to the wrong connector, that would do it.

Nothing has power at all. I wrote down what wire went to were and replaced them that way, but it doesn't mean I didn't mess one up. Were would the fuse be for the EXC power? I moved the wires around and maybe I messed something up, why would the fuse block have some power then loose it?

You should have voltage from the battery even without the alternator running or connected.

No power to guages is an electrical problem. Start with the battery and work out from there

Thats what the shop said that did the rebuild, I am just confused as to why replacing an alternator would have this effect, before I had the alternator rebuilt there wer no problems at all. The shop said the S side should have power all the time, mine doesn't.

The S side is the voltage sense and is basically monitoring the voltage at the battery.

Your battery is dead for some reason so you need to look at that first. Take off your battery terminals and charge your battery.

I would next disconnect your alternator and make the measure the current, with a meter, that you boat is drawing from your battery with everything off.

Next I would hook up your alternator and do the same as well as measuring the voltages at the alternator terminals.

You have a meter that can measure current and a service manual, right?

Check your alt wires again, according to my book the pink/purple wire goes to the EXC terminal and the solid purple goes to the S terminal, opposite of what you said.

Thanks for all the input, I went out there and check power before and after my main harness connector, no power coming out of it, I played around with that and low and behold I had power again, must of been a loose connection at that point. The wires on the alternator were replaced exactly on they came off, my book didn't even show a pink/purple wire. Thanks again for all the help.

What would happen if they were reversed? I put them on the way they came off.

Regulator would probably be ok except that you "may" be drawing current with the igniton off.
