They are not sealed for water. I would pull the starter and at least dry it out. Mine got submerged for a week(forgot to pull a drain plug)and when I pulled it and took it apart it was pretty much junk already.

I wouldn't go anywhere with a starter that has been submerged.

Take it to your local starter/alternator repair shop and have them go thru it.

the same happened my 89 3.0l 2 years ago, it worked for a while but let me down badly when least expected, take it out and bring to get a bench test done may only need new brushes after getting a good drying out?? my advice though put a new one in and get old one reconditioned and keep as a spare you never know when you may need it ...good luck.

If it got that high I worry if any water got into the boot.

I am with Bt Doctor
starter is the cheapest thing.
if water entered the bellows from the engine side it cannot get out and WILL destroy some very expensive parts.

U joint bellows
vent hole in the housing about 3-4 inches below the drive shaft. water will go INTO the boot from a high level.if theres any doubt ,pull the drive and look.
