Hi guys, lightening does strikes twice in the same spot.
This new 6 hour old mag 454 mpi engine in my Baja has the same problem as the 23' wellcraft engine, gas in the crankcase.
I need you guys to let me know if this is possible. This is what I did, after my fiberglass job in the bilge and sanding, got some dust over the engine so I sprayed some engine foam over the engine and hosed it off. Used compressed air to blow away the majority of water from the engine and electronic components, then started it up for 10 min idleing @800rpm the whole time. The engine looked dry enough so I switched it off then started it again with some hesitation. I did smell gas when it started the second time so I gave it some quick revs to clear whatever flooding went on in the cylinders. I checked the dip stick for the gas smell and it was there just as strong as the Wellcraft.
Could it be that I'm forcing to much water into the leg, faster than the impeller is spining at 800 rpm at idle, which is making the engine not warm up to expand the pistons to seal the cylinders?

this set up let's the leg suck up what ever it needs, with the garden hose in the bucket keping the bucket full.

Re: forcing water in waterpick up

thanks Bondo, I'll be over the person I bought this boat from today.
This is strange, when my self and the owner went out for a test drive on Green Bay the ending of March, the dipstick was the first thing I checked after the 20min run,no gas smell.
Took the boat out the middle of April for 5min and had to turn back because of because of rough waters,no gas smell. Just when I have it idleing in my drivewat.
I sucked all the oil out of the engine [i hope] and re filled with new oil and filter.Did not started it yet.
When I put it in the water tomorrow I'll make sure to have it on a faster rpm idle. Then take it for a spin and see if the gas smell comes back.

I've run hundreds of bigblocks on a hose with no problem. Sometimes on city pressure, sometimes on well pressure. No diference, but the city supply didn't collapse the hose so bad if you revved it.
