Couple drops of fuel leak out of carb...

When I start the boat about a drop of fuel leaks from the carb where the fuel line connects. I think it's due to a partially cross-threaded carb socket from connecting the fuel line. I've monitored it and it only happens when started and it only leaks 1-1.5 drops.

Is there anything I can do about this without changing the carb?

ScAndal

lilmandavis,

I believe it's actually the socket on the carb that is cross-threaded. The socket is molded onto the carb and the entire carb would need to be replaced.

ScAndal

yuck. thats yer call there buddy! i just know that a fire on the water is pretty serious. and with gas engines.... theres lots of things that could happen to burn that "little" bit of fuel. a few hundy is deffinately cheaper than a fire. if its a holly just buy that piece of the carb. you wouldnt need to replace the whole carb. and ummm dont cross thread fittings. its just not good for them lol!

I wouldn't use that boat until you got that fixed...and if you do...buy a lot of life insurance before you go.

Is there any type of substance that I could use on the connection to seal it?

ScAndal

If you can screw and unscrew
the fitting there is an epoxy
used in carbs to seal plugs in
holes made during manuf and for cleaning.

lilmandavis,
I really wish I could repair it but I can't afford it. It's either find another fix or don't go boating this summer.

I'm thinking of trying http://jbweld.net/products/marine.php

ScAndal

Take the carb off, and take it to a machine shop - have them clean the thread up .. probably cost you less than the JB

no matter what you do ...repair the threads. dont try to stick some glue and call it good. try to retap the threads and clean up the fitting. put some pipe tape on there after. but dont get sloppy as the tape will get into the jets if allowed to. carefull when backing out. dont want to crack it. i like hystats idea if you dont have the tap.

Scandal:
What everyone is telling you is Saftey first on the water, do what ever you have to to fix this problem rite.
getting a machine shop involved would be a good Idea.
