Outdirve noise

Hi folks, I have a 1996 VP SX drive and I did a service on it recently and with the warm weather have been running the motor, with muffs of course. the last time I had the drive off a few months ago i checked the ujoints and all seemed fine, nice and smooth. Well I noticed today that even when the drive is down there is a slight rattle from the u joint area. is this normal or should the drive be silent when running.

There shouldn't be a rattle unless the engine isn't running properly. If there is a miss in the engine, you could hear the backlash from the gears, but that is normal. Did you check the gimbal bearing and alignment when you had the drive off?

the same noise is more noticeable with the drive up so I suspect the u joints but they all feel real smooth when I checked them last

Also alignment and gimble are both good
