1989 thompson will not shift into reverse

HELP WANTED! I HAVE A 1989 THOMPSON I CAN MANUALLY PUT IT IN REVERSE BUT I CAN NOT SEEM TO GET IT TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE CABLE ARE GOOD.

How do you know the cable is good?<br />Just because it moves does not make it good...<br />If you can shift it into gear manually (drive off I assume), then you need to replace the cable...<br />If it is a new cable, it is adjusted wrong.....JK
