Anyone know if there is supposed to be a bearing on the motor end of the worm screw? Maybe a link to a drawing.

Re: stringer 400 power trim

I just pulled that shaft out of one for someone this morning. Yes, there's some sort of brass or alloy bushing pressed into that part of the intermediate bore. There would certainly be lotsa thrust there. There's also a little plastic disc washer paper thin... I wouldn't expect that plastic washer to be alive in any drive that's been tilted more than 100 times since new...

Re: stringer 400 power trim

just so we're straight. I'm refering to the end of that worm screw where it's engaged by the motor. Mine doesn't have anything between the inside of the housing and that screw. It got my attention because I could see a little wear on the inside of the housing in that location. I'm getting ready to put a new motor on that thing. Maybe machine a bushing for it? Any suggestions?
(I know, get a book).

I believe both motors are self contained,in that they can be run on a bench. So they have enough bearings and bushings.

The tilt motor changes the angle of the motor at the motor mounts.

The tilt motor raises the drive for towing.

Which are you asking about ?

DHP

Re: stringer 400 power trim

hystat thanks for clarifying. dhp it's the trim motor (at motor mounts). My question referred to a possible bearing or bushing outside the motor itself. Since my original post, I looked at microfiche and found that I wasn't missing anything in that assembly. The new, $230 12v motor (spit) is inplace and working. Now I got to figure out why my tilt/trim indicator gauge isn't functioning. That can wait until I get this thing on the water for awhile, I got to make sure I'm not beating a dead horse.
