I am considering buying a used cuddy cabin and would like advice from you. Here are the details -- 1992 Sea Ray 200 OV (Rebuilt 5.7L Mercruiser - 175hp) vs. a 1994 Maxum 2000SC (3.0L Mercruiser Alpha1 - 135hp). The Maxum looks brand new but the lack of horsepower has me nervous. The price is nearly the same for both. Thoughts?? Thanks, in advance.

Re: Sea Ray vs. Maxum

I think the 5.7 has alot more than 175 hp,you sure its not a 4.3? All things beung equal I'd choose the sea ray.Not so much for the engine size difference, although I'd take the searay just because of the rebuild, but you must have noticed a difference in quality between the 2.Not a knock on Maxum,I just bought a used boat and considered one.But you may noticed a diference in the feel of the 2 boats.I found the searay felt more solid, and everything was a little thicker in the construction material.Welcome to the forum !!!

Jim

I have a 1991 SeaRay200 Overnighter, it has the 5.7 liter V8 in it which has 260 horse power. Love the boat, very solid. I would check the floor for any soft spots it seems to be a hot topic on here with early 90 sea Ray. My floor is ok. Good Luck dont know about the Maxum.

If the choice is between an 8cyl and a 4cyl then its a no brainer.Too much power is better than not enough power.Resale will be better as well.Charlie

Hi I had a sea ray 220 select and bought a Maxum 3200 scr I feel the value of the Max far out weight the value of Sea Ray. Take a close look of the fit and finish

Re: Sea Ray vs. Maxum

i would take the maxum if it had a bigger engine. but since it doesnt, take the searay. like others said, you will like the extra power but cant do much about it once you have the 3.0. They are both great boats, i would expect maxum to be slightly less in quality, but still beautiful boats. we grew up with a maxum 2300, its still in service to this day and nicer than when we first got it. theres no replacement for displacement.

Those specs don't seem right to me. 20 foot boat with a 4 cylinder and a 5.7 with 175hp??
