1997 210 hsp Bravo II. Gear ratio 2.2/1. If engine kills, stalls while in gear, you need to take into a marine tech to have them put back into neutral, via entering the lower unit. It should not be put back into neutral via the throttle?
Has anyone heard of this?

Re: Have you heard this about a Bravo II?

It's happened to me with my B3 several times.
Someone turns off the ignition while in forward.
What I do is pull the shifter up towards neutral
while trying to crank the engine. It wont start cranking until I hit the neutral switch by pulling
up and it takes a little effort to get the shifter to move up to that position. When it starts cranking,
you can feel everything get back in position and
your OK. Someone can chime in here and tell this may be a bad thing to do but what else can you do when
your up the San Juan a Lake Powell? I have done it
as many as 10 times and not had any adverse effects.

Basically, the Bravo's of this vintage will get stuck in forward gear if shut down while in gear.
The shifter wont return to neutral, it stops at about the 10 o'clock position. If you pull up it on
to catch the switch, it will crank. Doesn't feel
right because you are forcing it to the neutral
position. But soon as you catch the switch and it starts cranking, it just slides into neutral.

Thanks Jim, I hadn't heard that. Back in '98 when the Sea Ray tech took us out for the maiden voyage, etc that's when he explained, this issue with the of ignition off while in gear, needs to go into the lower unit.

Also, not seeing a lot of Bravo II's around, lots Alpa's and BIII's, wonder if there is a reason for that.

I hear Bravo II's are designed to push bigger or
heavier boats and not make big top speed numbers.
They have larger diameter props for thrust.
I think the upper gear housings are pretty much the same. It's the lower housing that's different.
