anyone know where i can find a wiring diagram for a 1986 bayliner 2855 contessa ? Having problems with shore power. Battery charger not working and seems to have mixed up switches. I throw the breaker for the recepticles and nothing but the battery charger breaker seems to operate the recepticles. shore power will not operate any lighting on the boat ???? Refer works with the breaker in the on or off position.

i dont know. maybe a bayliner manual? this place has free boat manuals. thier not service manuals but the have wiring diagrams. theyll send you a free one. dont hook up the charger without hooking it to the batteries. some chargers will melt down! (360) 435 5571

got the same boat. refrig will run on 12 volts when boat is not on shore power. the only 110 lights i have are lamps pluged into outlets. with the boat unpluged see if there are two wires coming off the charger breaker.

Unless you are very familiar with the 110V system and how it should be hooked up in a boat, along with the 12V system, I would suggest you let a qualified marine tech work on it.

Lets see .. ya lick your fingers and touch both ends and if things get blurry ya got power ...right? LOL No I got my first degree in electronics and moved into the auto field. I am A.S.E certified in auto electronics(and 5 other areas) and worked for 15 years repairing onboard computer systems, abs brakes, srs airbag systems, carbs, and fuel injection systems. I now own 2 auto repair shops here in Phoenix. Wiring is my thing! Thus the need for an acurate wiring diagram. Not the cheapies ya find in the over the counter manuals. I have contacted two bayliner dealers, but no one seems to interested in finding what I need. I have also emailed Bayliner direct with no response. any one who might have a wiring diagram and willing to copy and fax it. that would be great. Fax # 480-830-1338

Well, ya sure can't tell any of that by reading your first posts.
I have also learned after being a marine tech for more years than I want to talk about, is that auto techs or electricians in homes and buisnesses (land 110V systems) are not the best people to have messing with marine wiring.
Call Bayliner toll free at 877-861-6494, give them your hull ID number and they will mail you a copy of the owners manual that has a wiring diagram in it for your model.
Don't expect a top of the line diagram, it's not, but it should give you a basic idea of what was there originally.

the first posts were through a second party, and I am not about to tell a qualified marine tech how to do there business. Cars and boats are 2 different animals and I know my limitations. thats why I ask when I dont know. And thanks again for walking me through that steering fork issue. Your having done them before saved me from making mistakes. The manual I have is worse than a chiltons you buy from autozone!! Seloc was the only thing I could find on the spur of things.
I will try Bayliner again in the a.m.
Any body with carb or FI questions carter rochester or holley or bosch I have rebuilt thousands (some with success even)may be able to help if i can. Thanks again all and if i can ever help will trow my 2 cents in
