Engine Height

I was wondering how to tell if my engine/drive are at the proper height in relation to the boat. After some floor/stringer work, the engine seems to be too low in the boat (really had to stretch the boot up to attach it to the transom). This is a 1969 4 cyl with OMC electric shift sterndrive. Thanks.

If your motor mounts haven't changed in height, everything should be the same. It might be a good idea to ask this question in "Boat Restoration"

The cavation plate should be "about" even with the hull <br /><br />If your new wood is a lower you will need to somehow shim the motor to its orginal height<br /><br /><br />tommays

Is the cavitation plate the one just above the prop? If so, its a little low now but shimming will be easy. Sorry for the ignorance. Thanks

I am confused.<br />You have an I/O?<br />Did you remove the oudrive and engine?<br />are the outdrive mounting holes <br />sloppy? Is there a "shadow" effect on the transome to aid in aligning?<br />How do you shim?

It is an I/O. The engine and outdrive were removed to do some work on the boat. When reinstalled, they seemed low compared to the hole in the transom. Now I'm just trying to make sure I've got them in correctly.
