Re: 1992 omc cobra 3.0 cracked block, can i use a chevy 2.5 auto block???
Sandman - the GM engine used in marine applications is, as Bondo said, completely different from the 2.5 motor you intend to compare side-by-side. For about 5 years, between 1990 and 1994, Mercruiser, in particular, used the 2.5L head on the 3.0 block, but that's because (my privately held opinion) they had a surplus of 2.5L heads when GM went to the 3.0 block. There is no recorded successful application of the 3.0L marine head to a 2.5 truck block - why would you want to reduce the displacement of your marine motor just for the sake of saving a few bucks? Besides, I sure wouldn't risk my newly-rebuilt head on the kind of boondoggle you're proposing. You can get the correct 3.0L marine short block or bare block for CHEAP if you just search a bit (Google, Dogpile, whatever, or go to
www.rebuilt.com and ask Dave about his bare blocks), so why waste your time (and ours) with the vain attempt to match up the truck block to which you keep referring?

BTW - there's a LOT of experience floating around here, particularly with guys like Bondo, Don S and Rodbolt, to mention a few. We're, frankly, not interested in whether or not your little experiment works, as you clearly don't understand, and apparently are intent to remain ignorant of, the nature of the marine vs. auto conflict when it comes to proper application of marine parts and equipment.
