hello everyone. Tonight i was out enjoying a ride in the boat (98 glastron se195 volvo I/O 4.3 L) when I hit a stump on the lake. I was going very slow 5 to 10mph. after i hit the stump my steering seems to notchy or ratchety now. The power steering pump belt had a burning smell and made squealing noises?? Any ideas what type of damage i have done?? I barely even scratched the prop and out drive looks untouched as far as I could see but something is up in the steering??

did the steering wheel jump at all when you made contact with the stump.

the nose of the boat was very high...the nose of the boat then drop quickly when the outdrive hit the stump and i would say there was a mild jump or jerk in the steering wheel. It jolted the whole boat quite a bit

i would not say it was smoking but it did smell hot. and was certainly warmer to the touch than the other belts on the engine.

Just post your question. I can't speak for JB, but if I have anything to add to a thread, I will. If I don't have anything different from the previous replies, I don't post.
It's a forum here. Ask your question and sort thru the answers you receive.

Do you have insurance? Turn it in immediately and let a good shop look at it. We are all guessing. I would not think your steering pump would be damaged at that slow speed, but only a good inspection by a qualified mechanic will tell.

Did you jerk up on the steering wheel by chance when you hit the object? Is your wheel adjustable? Check where the steering cable enters the back of your wheel behind the dash.

Or let the shop do it while you and the insurance adjuster look on.

Sounds like you may have bent the out put shaft on the out drive or the prop. Take it to a qualified marine tech and let them check it.
