Am riviving a '50s f/g over plywood runabout and have some questions on coatings. The craft has been painted inside and out many times with a variety of paints and methods and what I am concerned with is the compatability of what I am gonna finish with. First of all I need to repair some f/g and in those areas I have to take it down to the original f/g. The rest of the boat will be sanded down to the original paint and fairing compound. I need ideas on what to use for a fairing compound and what to use for a primer that would be compatible with the 3 materials I will I am left with...also some ideas what to coat the insides and bilge with...any ideas will be appreciated...thanks

Thanks Jomac for the links...I ordered some "Gluvit" to seal the bilge...could still use some help finding a not so modern recipe for fairing compound...just a Thought

We used to make fairing compound by mixing glass microspheres with gelcoat and spraying it on. Just one option. Good luck :)
