Having appreciated what JasonJ did with his Skanky Beast project I have to do the same--ie-build my own center counsol fishing/utility boat.<br />She is a 1980 ASI Imperial,16 feet. Bought 'er for $39 from Ebay Have already gutted shot seats and junk carpet after these photos were shot.<br />-------Great fun -- :) <br />

Re: Another Beast

Re: Another Beast

Cool....how is it structurally? Does it need the whole floor/transom/stringer combo pack or can you just do the conversion?

Re: Another Beast

Yep, this resto stuff is addicting ( hello my name is Pat and i'm a resto addict) :D . Yep, $39 for boat and trailer. The seller had it listed in an unusual cat. I was the only person to bid. Here is Ebay description:<br />"Description <br /><br />17 ft boat trailor needs some TLC missing a fender, mismatched tires rusty. TRACKS GOOD LIGHTS SHOULD WORK NEEDS A LITTLE TAPE. the free boat is a 1980 Imperial tri hule bad transom solid floor repairable REMEMBER YOU ARE BIDDING ON THE TRAILOR THE BOAT IS FREE AND MUST BE TAKEN WITH THE TRAILOR. TITLE FOR BOAT NO TITLE FOR TRAILOR WISCONSIN DOES NOT REQUIRE ONE "<br /><br />The transom is shot. Look close at photo to see where motor mount punched hole through glass. Soft wood and a hard holeshot maybe did that??? I suspect that trans. wood got wet from fitting and fastener lack of sealing. Who knows or cares at this point.<br /><br />The floor looks real good, do not know about stringers, etc. when I start chopping away to get at trans., I will learn more. There was some water that drained from bung (like that word, as well as "fungus" as in dry rot fungus)when i tipped bow skyward.<br /><br />Now I've two projects, the Slikker SS160V and Another Beast (AB). Don't have a motor for the AB yet, plate says 100hp max. Hoping to stumble on another Ebay deal. ;) <br /><br />The gift gods been good to me lately. Friend gave me a Minkota 42# bow mount auto steer troll motor. Is gonna be real sweet on bow of AB.

Re: Another Beast

yea, that trailer is for a 17 foot boat seller says. the trailer will need some resto work, adjustment to rollers, bunks, etc.<br /><br />to JJ--i'm not going to be shy on this projy like the Slikker--when i get into 'er next spring--i'll rip in like a big cat on a fresh kill--<br /><br />this am water still dribbling from bung (theres that word again) ;) indicating to me that the sub deck foam is saturated with water. and furthermore (assumed) the stringer wood and underside of ply floor is soaked. real reasonable to assume then that some (or much) rot fungus has set into same--therefore---i will chop away like a mad slasher when the time comes.<br /><br />oh yea, Jason, my topside is joined to hull with rivits--hows about yours? (Skanky Herself) and how are the windshields fastened to deck, from underside???

Re: Another Beast

My deck was joined originally with 50 billion staples. I pulled them and the deck came right off. When remounting the deck I clamped the flanges and drilled/riveted the deck to the hull every two inches. The aluminum rubrail also forces the flanges together on my boat. When I reinstalled the rubrail I used plenty of sealant and tapped it on, then screwed it above and below the joint every four inches. It originally was screwed the same way, but there were screws only every few feet. I overkilled my hull/deck joint because a few years ago I saw a news story where a couple guys were running their tri-hull across Puget Sound during bad weather and the pounding actually caused the deck to rip itself from the hull. They limped it in, but they were freaked out. I did not want that happening. I have since learned that my boat does not pound as bad as most tri-hulls, but I like the peace of mind. My windshield setup had studs that ran from the window frames through the deck surface, and was bolted from underneath.

Re: Another Beast

Cool, hope that Merc runs good. I am jealous over the bow mount trolling motor, I need one and don't feel like spending the loot for a new one. I may have to, but that won't be until later. Maybe the tax refund can take care of that. I am also prowling my one local pawn shop, this is the time of year the financially challenged hawk their boating gear for a six pack of beer, I am the end beneficiary.... :D

Re: Another Beast

I'm lookin forward to you getting started. I loves to watch the projects unfold. My next phase on Skanky Beast is I will be converting my bow seating area to a casting deck. It will be at the same level as the current seating, and the pedestal seat will be removeable. I will keep the cushions, and have a middle cushion made, so that it can also be used as one big sunpad. It is enough room for the better half to lay on when we go out on the water together. Then, when it is fishin' time, I pull the cushions, pop in the pedestal seat, pull out the bow-mount foot controls, and have a good ol' time.

Re: Another Beast

Man, I can't wait JJ. I am planning on late May or early June if the weather is normal. Then do the rest of the Slikker floor and transom while getting into the Imperial trihull project.<br /><br />Currently I am schemeing and plan to build console this winter.<br /><br />Much as I whine about weather, I have lots of opportunity to build console and sub assy. stuff in the basement. And, as well as go over motors (Ebay swithchbox for Merc, dern thing on that real Ebay deal 65hp was shot  , have sparks now :) )--plan, scheme, play the ponies to fund them projects.<br /><br />AND--scour these posts to culture ideas!!!

Re: Another Beast

I was wondering what ever happened to your "beast" project. Kinda dejavue in a way. I finally started dinking with the Beast today, the first time I have touched her since I put her up last October. I did some work on the kicker, and I think I will pull her out of the garage, get her all fired up in preperation for some fishin'. All that law enforcement training put me way behind the power curve, but I gained some ground today. I don't really have any work that needs to be done other than the bit of work I did on that 5.5 Johnson kicker I put on last October. Anyway, keep postin' the progress.
