I want to replace the missing foam that was under the gunwale, but I do not want to flip the boat upside down to do it. I was wondering if the spray expanding insulation foam that you can buy at the home centers would work as a floatation foam. I think it is sticky enough to stay on the underside of a horizontal surface while it slowly expands and hardens.

Thanks,

Mark.

Make sure it's closed cell foam.

I'm thinking you might be able to make a temporary "bulkhead" out of some material like a piece of corrugated or thin plywood to block the area while you foam... Little trick is to spray it with PAM spray to act as a mold release.

BTW, spill any and it's like concrete, it sticks to everything.

Roger

While I am against using the home product as floatation foam, it should be fine for what you are proposing. You will probably need to make some sort of means to hold it in until it cures. As long as it isn't being exposed to water, it will be fine.
