I'm looking at buying a pontoon boat w/a 25hp Johnson. I'm told the prop will need to be replaced (I havent inspected it yet), any suggestions?

Should I look at the prop to determine reason for damage: foreign objects, cavitation, etc..

Any suggestions for a replacement? Brand, type, etc..

I was also told by the dealer that the top of the motor was rebuilt to be 35hp, but they kept the 25hp cover on the motor, due to hp restrictions on the prev owners lake. Does this make sense to you?

Re: A couple questions

One other thing, I've looked around on this site and it says "WOT" by RPM, when discussing props, what does that mean?

Re: A couple questions

It means Wide Open Throttle. The outboard should run at or very close to it's maximum recommended RPM's at WOT. If the rpm's are too high it will over rev the motor and could cause damage. If it's the rpm's are too low at WOT then you won't get the performance out of the motor that you should and it will be 'lugging' which will also wear it out prematurely.

If your buying it from the dealer, then I would have them fix the prop or replace it as part of the deal.
