Guys was in Hospital for a bit will update soon, Dr said do nothing strenuous for a week or two. Yeah right Im Scottish will be back at it asap

Here are a few pics of the rusted powerhead bolts.

These are well and truly stuck. Whilst in hospital i had a flash of inspiration.:joyous:

I flipped the motor up side down on the engine hoist.
Even with this better access i still couldnt get the bolts to move.
So on to plan B

Time to get out the welder
I placed a nut and on to each rounded bolt head and now i could get a decent socket on them and out they come.

The 2 at the rear under the stats were nuts. i managed to get one off but the other was stuck.
I had to drill through it to break the nut.

Once the power head was off it was time to investigate the low compression on pot 4
It looks like this piston has be roasted alive.
Any other ideas as to what would make a piston deteriorate like this one ???

Have you torn the carbies down? That's a 140 - does it have 1-3/8" cast in the carbie fronts?

No the carbs are 1-5/16th on this motor. Still trying to find out what happened to the piston Any ideas ????

Ah. My '78 doner gave me 1-3/8" ones. Wonder why the change.

The 1978 and 79 140 hp had the 1 3/8 carbs(and possibly the 1977, however since the 77 had the oddball exhaust tuner, it may have had the 1 5/16 carb). 1980 and newer 140 hp and all 115 hp 1973 and newer(prop and crank rated) had the 1 5/16 carbs.

How do the waterjacket deflector rubbers look?

The Deflectors look OK as the rest of the block is as well.
I think it has been a replacement block not to long ago.
Will check out the carbs to night.
I dont want to end up with the same problem
