I will be attempting to remove the cap of my boat this weekend the problem I have encountered is that it appears that the splashwell is somehow glued to the transom. I am at a loss as to how to go about removing this thing. If anyone has run across this problem before please let me know what you did to resolve it.

Re: cap removal

that was the worst part so far on my project.
i got a chizel without a handle about 1.5" wide and about 9" long, it had a little extra metal on the end to hammer on. i crawled into the bilge and hammer it strait up (watch out to not get into the transom, going into wood and not the glue.) once it was nice and stuck up there i hit it side to side and kept wiggling until it came out. then put it right in there again right next to where you were. once i got some out from underside, i went out and tried to scrape between top and bottom of boat about 1/8" worth. be careful here too. i poked through the splashwell on that part. once i had what i thought was all out after about 2 days of hatred work. i jacked up both sides of the boat one rope fromt he cleat and the other on the swim ladder. had the boat off the trailer about an inch or too. went in from the outside with a 4" wide (all metal) chizel and push down (not up will crack gelcoat).
and that is when mine finally came apart (what a great sight). i dont know if there is an easy way to do this. i tried lots of chizels and screw drivers with no luck except getting things stuck. my cleats and swim ladder were pretty solid i wouldnt do it if you have doubt about yours.

XE

P.S. i have a pic on my website of how i set it up. but my isp is changing the server, and my site has been down since monday.

Mine popped fairly easily. I used a pickle fork that you use to remove ball joints and hammered that in from each side, popped it pretty good.

Re: cap removal

I used a 2x4, hammer and floor jack. Took me about 5 minutes. And I have never done or even read about it before :)

Took the 2x4 and put it against the edge and smashed it. Did this all the way around twice. Then I took the floor jack and put the 2x4 on it.. jacked up till it came in contact with the edge and lifted it off. No problem
