For those that have been following my project on this thread http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=26;t=001207

I'm starting a new thread because the other was was really long. I've had it out on it sea trial. Did my sea trial last Monday, pretty much uneventful. I've since had it up at the lake last weekend for 3 days of fishing and it was great.

Here are some links to the updated pictures.

http://www.keltonkrew.com/whaler-restore.htm

and http://www.keltonkrew.com/whaler.html . The last row in the "In Progress" and all rows in the "Completed" section are new.

Thanks to all of y'all that have supported me in this.

Fantastic Work-KK.

You can be VERY proud of that one.

I'm curious to know what the folks over at CW think of it?

Very nice. The console rocks, you can't get too much more shiny that that. Does it still handle okay with everything "different"?

Re: Finally FINISHED my Project Whaler

The console is extremely glossy.....you can see reflections of everything! It has 8 coats of West Marine's Admiral Varnish, sanded with 320 between each coat. That took forever.

It actually rides much better than before...It is more responsive. I think setting the engine back let me raise the prop considerably then putting the tank in the console (which is slightly further forward than before) helped. It is much quicker, planes better and cruises smoother at a higher speed. Before I had to trim it funny and it would porpoise bad...now, none at all.....My friend that went fishing with me this weekend (we always fish together and take turns driving) even mentioned how much better it handled, plus the console is at the right height.

Thanks for everyone's support.

I read the CW posts. I'm glad you cleared that up with those people.

I still think they are a bunch of snobs.

Your boat fits your needs exactly, that's why you built it that way. Plus, I think your workmanship may have raised a jealousy streak or two.

My hat's off to ya!

KK, Tight lines there buddy, You have put a lot of work into your project and you will enjoy using it now.
Regardless of what others may think or say about what you have done to your boat it matters not because its yours and you can do what you like to it.
You now a finished project that suits your requirements and no one else's.

Regards

Peter

KeltonKrew , That Whaler looks great, In a recent post I said some people just lacked vision, you sure didn't, that console looks great, lots of work, but if your like me, I'm craving for another one, just got to convince wife :)

I see a 21ft Stamas some day in the backyard gutted to the bone, with a big old Johnson or Merc on it

In the mean time I'm going fishing

Your boat looks great! Very nice job. It looks like you'll be looking for some campgrounds with water. Hope you wife doesn't mind towing the boat. I'm in the same situation, I pull the trailer & the wife pulls the boat. Enjoy!

Re: Finally FINISHED my Project Whaler

Acutally I now have a waterfront lot on Lake Livingston. I pull my trailer there and the boat is in storage up there now. The latest pics is my trailer at my lot and the boat in the water pic is at my water line......

my wife would never tow the boat, so this was my only option (plus, the lot was my Grandfathers since 71')

You shouldn't brand a whole group as "snobs" because of a small % of posters.

Very very nice. Ive been following your work but haven't really had anything to add that others hadn't said. And I saw from your other forum (is this like the "other woman") LOL that you and Jaya patched things up. But have seen in forums where people (purists) get really nasty! Too bad that some can't think "out of the box" You have what we could call a brand new boat at a fraction of the cost! Great work!

Link
