Do you have any notion of what it weighs and how wide it is? I'm thinking of how hard it would be to transport. Also thinking about a plausable argument for the Admiral.

Thom

On edit: Also, do you have any notion as to the beam, deadrise forward and aft, flare? I just sort of, in an appropriately off-hand way, mentioned this post to the Queen-Of-All-That-Is-Good last night and wasn't greeted with that deadly look - at least not that I could notice, and my senses were highly attuned at the time :D

Thom

Unless you just want a 100% DIY project, it might be easier and less expensive to buy a hull or an abandoned boat, gut it, strip it, and then build up from there. Might even be able to get the boat for free if you are willing to drag it away.

18rabbit got it right. a 27' mold would have to be hauled on a flatbed 18 wheeler, due to weight and the frame and skid it's bonded to. there is a vast supply of project boats available after the hurricanes. consider that during 1968-73 I manufactured boats in s. fla. resin was $85. per 50 gal. drum and acetone $35. a few yrs. ago I wanted to build a small mold and paid double that for 5 gals. a no win deal here re: the mold.

I have to agree with 18rabbit. I saw a program where companies pull sunk boats off the bottom and totally gut them. Then they rebuild them to their clients specs.

I think if you are building a custom boat, then a salvage hull is a major cost and time saver. Check out some of these basket cases at the boat liquidators:

This 1974 26 foot Penn Yan is only $450! Geez, there is probably $450 in salvagable aluminum, brass and stainless steel on it! (well, on second thought...)

Re: free mold to build 27 foot boat

B oat rebuilding is an addiction . I've rebuilt 4 in the last two years . The boats are the cheap part it's the motors and everything else that hurt the wallet . My wife is going to divorce me if I bring one more boat home . The boats I completed Include a 15ft whaler it was free . reguired two donor boats one donated a console and the other donated motor and trailer. My second rebuild a 17ft procraft was $300 it was complete b/m/t it was going to be a donor boat for the whaler but it made a great little pole skiff I wanted to ditched the hull but still had the bug. sold the motor rebuilt the hull hung a rebuilt yamaha sold the boat. The 3rd is my baby a 1972 proline 20ft all it needed was cosmetic rails all new ss paint etc. my 4th and final boat a $50 dollar starcraft never seen one before (a 19ft aluminum v hull in/outboard )had to have it. it was the cheap rebuild new floor paint cables and tune up It will be sold tommorow. Find what you want and rebuid it.
