This follows on from Dash Chronicles
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=26;t=002592
but given the number of pictures already in that thread I've started a fresh one to give people on dial up a chance of downloading in their lifetime.

Here's before, main stages, and finished. Sorry about the glary photos and lack of detail. Flash and other lighting didn't co-operate. The fourth photo is closest to the real timber colour.

Wow! That came out nice. Infact, the color looks good with the boat. And those guages are too much! The wheel looks new. Nice, very nice.

Hey you tricked us you talked about the dash which looks great but, how did you get the fiberglass on the boat to shine like that?
Were you talking to Mark42?

Just rubbed it back with 800 grit wet and dry in truck wash; then with auto cut and polish; and then polished with auto polish. The photos make it look shinier than it is, but it's OK for an old boat.

She's a runner. Rebuilt the motor 18 months ago and I've been using the boat as I work on it.

The dash is now the best part of the boat. I'm gonna put a screwdriver and wire cutters on clips under the dash. If the boat sinks I'm cutting the dash free first. :)

Gotta wire up the instruments now. Then paint the motor and maybe get a decal made for it. Then recover the side bins. Dye or paint or cover the seats. Paint the seat boxes. Maybe paint the floor. Fix up little bits and pieces. Should be finished in about 10 years.

That really looks nice! Neat boat, don't be ashamed of the patina that comes with age, she looks great!

15' Caribbean Galaxy, but the same hull design in different lengths was sold under various model names under the Caribbean and Pride brands. From memory the Pride Camaro was a common one. Might have been sold under other brands.

Mine is late '60's or early '70's. Caribbean says they don't have records that go that far back so I'll never know.

Very nicely done. Nothing like doing it yourself and taking pride in a job well done. What type of wood did you use ? It has a nice rich look to it. Oh and you were wrong about one thing. You will never be finished. There will ALWAYS be something to add, fix, modify, improve, repair, remove, install, tune, clean, adjust etc etc etc :D :D :D

Nowhere, usually. Out of Mordialloc Creek occasionally. I need to try Port Phillip Bay more.

It goes out mostly on Westernport off Phillip Island. Mainly Rhyll.

tengals

Never been game to try Tooradin. All those mud channels and looks like you leave and return close to high tide. Flew over it a couple of times as a passenger in a powered hang-glider out of the windy Tooradin airport, which beats fishing for a rush.

mate, tooradin channel is one of the nicest channels to ever finish or start your fishing/cruising trips on. I launch at 6-7am and return around 2pm. because it's sheltered it just awesome, like glass most of the time. With boat our size anytime 1-1.5hrs either side of low tide and we are safe as houses. Just a super spot.
