I am looking for a used boat and ran across a 1996 Conquest 2100 sport. Open bow 5.7L Alpha 1 drive. I can't seem to find any information on the internet about this company. Were they here then gone? Boat looks in good shape. I assuem a Mercruiser 5.7L/Alpha I can be worked on by any boat mechanic. Guy wants $12K for the boat. Sound high? I think that is less than NADA. Trailer is included. Any info on Conquest would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

I had a 21' Conquest cuddy cabin with the 5.7L & it was a good boat. They are/were made in W. Frankfort, IL. I think...by some of the same folks that made Mark Twain & Celebrity. I bought mine in 1998 for $12,500 and sold it two years later for the same amount...I would think that $12K would be pretty high for that boat now. Best thing to do with NADA is ignore it and check out the local Trader for similar boats.

While I no longer have the contact info, I think I got it by just calling information in W. Frankfort, IL.(or Benton maybe?) They were very helpful. I asked the girl who answered the phone who owned the company....her somewhat offended reply was "My Daddy!"

Decided to check it out and just got off the phone with Rend Lake Marina...according to them, Conquest is no longer in business.

Re: Anyone heard of Conquest 2100 sport

One thing I found when I was looking at the boat was the "fin" that protrudes down from the lower unit appears to have been sheared off about half way up. Looks like directly above the prop there is a small dent on the edge of the horizontal flat plate directly above the prop. Looks like maybe something got wedged between the prop and that plate. There was also an extra dinged up aluminum prop inside the engine compartment. This sounds bad, but I'm also not sure what boats that run on the rivers look like. I know there is alot of debris out there. Had friends with a comp. ski boat and they sheard of the entire direct drive and rudder from a tree in the river. They were running where they always had. Would these be things to repair or not?

Thanks for the replies. Its great help for a newbie.

Chris

Hey Chris,I think the fin you are reffering to is the skeg. Stern-drives and props do get beat up,but if you are missing half the skeg something was hit hard. The skeg can be welded but you should looking any other damage that may have been done.check the transome for damage,if it has any serious cracks, walk away from the deal.Make sure you take it out for a long test drive, the seller should be willing to this.It will not only help you become familiar with the boat,it will also give you a chance to listen to boat run,but also check the fluids after boat was in the water running, and look for water in the bilge. If you have any water in the engine oil, walk away. You may have some water in the bilge from rain or splashing, but any more than a very small amount may indicate a bigger problem. The rubber hoses (boot)that run from the the engine to the the sterndrive,if they haven't been relaced recently will have to be done soon, they don't usualy last more than6-8 years, and if leaking will cause lots of problems. Cost to relpace them about 600$ This will be a little messy, but it is important-unscrew the sterndrive drain plug, and plug the hole with your finger. Make sure the oil is not milky.Look at the plug,it should be magnetic,to see if you have alot of metal chips in it.Metal chips indicate an expensive sterdrive problem. If your going to spend that kind of money on a boat, everything should be working properly. There are other things to look for also, too much to list,if you don't feel comfortable buying this boat, take it to a marine shop and have them look it over,or maybe you know someone who can can come with you and look it over with you. I'm not suggesting the seller is trying to screw you, some people just don't don't know..

Good luck
Jim

Thanks for the replies. I talked to a local shop and they thought it would be $150 to fix the skeg. I looked around the mounting areas and didn't see any cracks or damage. One thing I notice when I spin the prop with the gear in Neutral is there is a small quiet ticking sounds. No anywhere near as loud of a ticking as when you have it in gear and rotat the prop the opposite direction. I tried this on a friends AlphaI and there was no ticking. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Chris

Take it for a run and check both the engine oil and sterndrive oil.The drain for the sterndrive will be on the bottom left side (forward of the prop) of the sterndrive. All you need is a slot screw driver to remove the plug.Look for water and or metal chips.

Jim
