My runabout's original steering wheel's white paint is chipped, cracked, and faded. What's the best way to redo it? And what kind of paint should I use?
I restored an old 60's car steering wheel using common grey epoxy from hardware store and white epoxy spray paint. It worked well. I filled all the cracks (some were quite wide like 1/4") with epoxy. After hardening for a day I sanded and re-filled and sanded again until smooth. Then a few coats of spray epoxy. It held up for years until I sold the car.

If I did it today I would try the steering wheel restore kits available for the auto restore business. I think it has epoxy that is more flexable so if the plastic shrinks any more the cracks won't come back.
What is the recommendation if you have an old Ride Guide metal steering wheel that is chipped? Sandblast it? What do you put on it for primer and paint for best results?

Do you also suggest airbrushing it to get into the tiny grooves on the wheel?
I'm going to strip mine and have it chromed along with a few engine parts. Then I'll just make a cover from one of those lace-up covers from an auto store.
