Re: "Before" photos of my runabout project
Yes, I see on your photo3 page that the adjustment pin looks like it's in the full down/in position. This is not unusual for an engine with PTT. But... I'm not at all familiar with outboards of this vintage so I can't help you. My wild guess is that those large red cylinders might be it? A typical outboard will have electrical wiring going into the engine that probably carries the tach signal and another for the circuit from the key to the starter. Other than that, at the engine itself, you probably only have the throttle cable. Other wires, tubes and cables going back there will be for stuff like a speedo and , if you see any other electrical wires going to somewhere in the vicinity of the engine, but down by the mounting bracket as opposed to the engine itself, they might control a PTT. You might be able to troubleshoot and repair if needed from there. But again, I'm only speculating about the PTT at all.Originally posted by 1961 Red Fish Shark-Merc Mark 58AE:
D.,
My boat does have a pin with holes for various position on the mounting bracket. CalicoKid noted in one of the above posts that my motor had tilt and trim, but I didn't know it.
There are a few "mystery switches" behind the dash: two are cylindrical twist switches, and one is a big button. None are marked, though. The controls have an ignition switch and one button. There is also a push-pull switch on the dash, to the right of the steering wheel. When pulled, it feels like a multi-position switch.
Tell me where to look on my motor to identify the power tilt and trim. Man, I need a picture to understand this!
