Hi, I have a Maxum bowrider with a permant fuel tank located at the rear of the boat. I have noticed that the tank seems loose and to has a little movement; meaning i could slide it about 1/4" each direction. Are they supposed to be firmly mounted? Is this something i should worry about? Unfortunatly, to get to the whole tank i would have to cut up the floor.

Re: Loose fuel tank

Actually the tank should not move whether there is fuel or not they cvan expand a bit though and are supposed to have some space around them.

I think a good and esy fix would be to push the tank so you get a bigger gap at ther rear. They get a rope and push it down behind the tank. but not touching the floor. They you will need some 4lb two part foam. mixup a SMALL amount like .5 oz of each and pour over the rope. This should help secure the tank. 4 lb is recommended by the USCG.

Now your best bet is to fix the issue by ripping up the floor. I sure wouldn't want a loose tank in my boat and then having a fuel or vent line rupture and then explode!!!

Re: Loose fuel tank

If it slides around, it might chafe a hole in itself over time.

There are several ways to stop its movement, one might be to just slide it from one extreme to the other and squirt about a half a calk gun tube of silicone down around it in the gap left by pushing each way.
