This Sucks after spending 4 months of spare time with mine dad reupholstering my boat white. I put my brand new RED boat cover on the boat and we took it to the lake. After leaving the lake it rained and the @$#@%$ boat cover bled all over the vinyl any ideas on how to take it out would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the things I'd try in no particular order - I'd try each on a small area. If it didn't immediately work I'd move on to the next thing....

First, can you contact the cover material manufacturer and ask them what they recommend?

You can try an electric pressure washer (like 135 psi type with the turbo nozzle). I got some easypoxy topside paint on my vinyl and that's the only thing that took it off. It has been set for a whole year and nothing would take it off (if I got to it before it set mineral spirits would have taken it right off). Yesterday I turned the washer lose on it and it came right off... I laughed my a$$ off given how hard I tried to get that stuff off!

You can also try WD40 - it's just a great cleaner...

Maguires makes one heck of a heavy duty vinyl cleaner...

Grease Lightening is the most amazing cleaner ever invented by man...

303 I think makes a heavy duty cleaner (I wouldn't use anything that says cleaner/protectant)

Bleach is always a good cleaner on white vinyl...

A rag moderately soaked with lacquer thinner can sometimes make a miraculous save. Won't hurt the vinyl. It evaporates very quickly so do it in the shade.

As Ralph said, find out what the cover or fabric manufacturer dyed it with and what they would clean it up with. I've used soft scrub to remove mildew and dirt etc. but dye may have penetrated deeper into the vinyl. Let's hope not! What kind of cover was it? I haven't heard of them bleeding before, that does suck.

I feel your pain. Be sure to let us know how it comes out. If all else fails, acitone might be worth a try.

Yuck! Tell us the brand of cover so we won't buy one like it.

Apparently the dye was water-soluble or the rain wouldn't have leached it out of the cover. Before you do anything drastic, you might want to try one of the oxygen bleaches on it. Don't use Clorox bleach or any chlorine bleach without testing it on a hidden area.

Oxyclean or something like that might just clear the red out.

This will happen again, though. You might try taking the cover to a laundromat with the big washers and run it through a couple of wash cycles, to get rid of the excess dye.

If it were me, I'd be contacting the cover manufacturer PDQ with a strong complaint.

I second the request for knowing who the manufacturer of the cover was. A boat cover that bleeds when wet is a major screwup.

Whoever made that product should have their name passed around.

Not fun at all!

I think I recall something like this happening before. Once in awhile the right protectant doesn't get on the fabric...or something like that.

I would also think that a good support pole would be handy as well. That way the cover wouldn't be touching the seats...or at least not very much of the seat material. If water ends up pooling then bad things happen. When the water drains off quickly a cover will last longer and look a lot better.

I would be carefull if you decide to use WD-40 on Vinyl because it can be vary harsh on vinyl and cause it to dry and crack prematurely, but it is also a very good cleaner so If you decide to use it make sure you use a protector like 2001 after (not before because it can cause the stain to stain in even more)to give it protection.
