Hello
I have a 1959 Wooden Boat in great shape except for the finish. I have it stripped to bare wood. My question is what do I use to refinish it . Can I use polyurathene from my local home depot. Do I have to use marine produtcs. What steps would you use to getting a perfect like original finish.
Thanks DP

Forget polyurathene if you want a lasting quality finish. The best is a good grade of marine spar varnish with UV protection. Use the best brush you can afford and plan on multiple coats. The results can be both lasting and spectacular.

Oh - - And WELCOME!!

So, what kind of boat is it, what type of wood, can you show us a picture? What was the original finish you are trying to copy? Chief ;)

You can find a lot of great info at www.lymanboat.com. Tom has a great Q&A page with about 5,000 posts on wooden boats(mostly Lyman) I use it for info on my 1958 Lyman 19'. Joe
