Gunnel or Gunwale Restore

My gunnels are soft and do not really hold any sort of hardware to my satisfaction. How would I repair them and make them look good.

If you want to cover all of those holes you could use 1/4" teak "plates" cut to size. I did one that way & it looks good.

Well..<br /><br />I kinda want to redo the whole thing. If you look on the sides its kind of shabby.

Well it gives a hollo sound and the kleats that were there move a little when you pull them like they will rip out if enough pressure is applied. Basically I want to have strength it and make it look good.<br /><br />Any help is appreciated.
