This is what I have done... Don't know if this is what you'll want but you gunna learn how I did it anyways...lol

I used 2" foam, quilt batting, heay gauge plastic, 1/2" plywood, and staple gun with staples.
First I cut My plywood to size. Then using the plywood I traced my pattern on backside using pen/pencil. I then installed carraige bolts through the plywood to mount. I cut the vinyl out about 3/4" over on each side. I then cut strips 4" long. (enough to go around entire sections) My vinyl wasn't long enough so I made sure that the seams to this was on the back. You would want yours on the bottoms or sewn very neatly in the middle of the top. I simply sewed the 4" sections to the tops Along the pen/pencil markings using a regular sewing machine set on cross stitch pattern. The corners got difficult but if you go slow and turn material often you can complete it. I cut my 2" foam with regular sicors. Layed out the plastic, then quilt batting and placed 2" foam on top and then plywood on top of it. Cut plastic/batting to fit over foam and plywood leaving enough to staple a few places around to keep from moving. Then flipping over foam/plywood I pulled the vinyl over the top, then flipping to pull and staple around entire backside. I would use the quilt batting to round out the corners a bit and the plastic to keep water proof. If you haven't done already drill a few 1/2 holes across the back to allow air to escape if pressed upon. Otherwise it would feel like a balloon.

If you got any questions let me know. My corner would look alot better if I would have spent more time pushing the foam directly into it. Also when putting material over foam make sure your seem is laying the same on the under side so you get a nice even look.

Dave, those cushions look really functional. It occurred to me that I could make a bench seat also using the back seat out of an old Volvo or Jeep Cherokee (junkyard variety - who cares how the upholstery looks - probably use the bench only and make backs similar to yours but maybe overfilled with soft batting). Build a box to support the seat, attach it with hinges so it could be lifted for storage. Alot of junked cars have backseats that are still in great shape. Then, have to fight the sewing machine to recover...

Go Big Red, by the way (I'm originally from Scottsbluff). Iowa State is going to be a test this weekend.

Yeah... huskers aren't lookin pretty good this year.. When the defense score more then the offense... you got some probs.

I got lucky and found the same blue that was on my fold down lounge seats, If I could have found the grey I would have just stripped the blue. Oh well.. the kids are the only ones that ride up front...lol

I can see where your comming from starting with the base. Somthing with some springs and support, So your not trying to cover 8" of not so cheap foam.

I like the looks of the first pics... but it seems to me they took up alot of room.

I know I am preaching to the choir.... but make sure you use stainless steel bolts and STAPLES. I neglected the staples once in on a seat project and they rusted and dammaged the light colored vinyl fabric.

Regarding cutting the foam. An electric carving knife works great. if you don't have one a long sharp knife will do. Something like a machete, or large butcher knife. Draw your pattern, then make slicing cuts with the blade almost parralel to the foam, the right knife will cut the foam like butter. Also some places that sell foam will cut it for a nominal charge.

Aso remember that there are different densities of foam. the stuff that most shops have in stock is awfully soft for some seat projects. When you purchase the foam ask about different grades and densities you will be amazed.

I just joined this web page, looks very helpful. After my divorce, I bought a boat to restore just to occupy my free time. Years ago, I worked for Wellcraft in Florida building them and it seemed like a good idea at the time. My boat project started with a bad color scheme, pink, lavender and black. After ~50 hours with a heat gun and scraper those stripes are gone, but the upholstery still has those colors. I replaced the front seat already and was going to just reupholster the rear seat, but it appears to be made of 2"x6"'s. I have not figured how to attach pictures yet.

I like Mobious! Any of the seats recliners? Is that a sleeper sofa I see? Where do you keep all the remote controls? How did they hide the cup holders and where does the plasma HD TV pop up from?

:)

Nikko -

Love the 'Rondak style! I just wish I'd seen that before putting in pedestals, though.
