Kid wants to build a boat.

My youngest, Hayden, has wanted to buy or build a boat for probably a year or more.<br />He works at the market with me every Sunday, plus grows his own plants to sell, and banks the lot.So he is paying.<br />I have searched the web for plans, and the only one I can find that seems to fit the bill is at<br /> http://www.bateau.com/proddetail.php?prod=FL12. <br />I would prefer to buy a plan locally, but have had no luck tracking plans down.<br />Anybody else been down this road, and got any suggestions.<br />(me and the worker will help him).<br />Cheers<br />Phillip

bateau.com makes good plans. I have used one there plans and it has been great. Still working on it because I put the project off. They offer great tech support. Definately encourage your son. There will be nothing more satisfying than to build a boat with his money and to do it with his dad. Maybe this link will work.<br /><br /> FL12 Boat

Phil, thats a nice rowboat, whatever you make up your mind to build as far as the boat it don't matter nearly as much as the building. It will be an experance that you and your son will never forget. A man who have never built a boat has never really lived--Bob

Philip,<br /><br />The FL12 is a great boat for a kid to build. Many have been built by adults and youngsters. Their tech support website may also be the best. They have a very loyal customer base and the site is very active with posts from other builders and the designer. One thing to keep in mind is that the FL12 is not a planing hull. It is great for an electric motor or a small gas outboard. The FL12 can be finished for simply and easily over a couple of weekends or one could spend two months and have a very finely detail wood boat.<br /><br />www.glen-l.com has many designs as well, but many are very old and unless you phone them, support questions may not get answered for days.

Phil, try www.gatorboats.com. I'm in the process of building the "croc" model. Not too difficult and you have lots of leeway to modify if you wish. It takes 3 sheets of plywood, a couple pieces of 1x and a couple pounds of screws. Seems very sturdy and is about teh size you are looking for at 11'9".<br /><br />Here's a pic in progress:<br /><br />

Kiwi,<br /><br />Bateau is a great place to get the plans from. I built one a few years ago. the online tech support is great. Their supplis are about the least expensive you can find anywhere. i got some free plans for the Minimax and Minimost on this site http://www.muskokaseaflea.ca/ and i actually built the minimax. its a fun thing to drive. i also found great plans and kits at http://www.glenl.com ( u have to pay for them ) and i also restored a Glen-L TNT...a really fun boat...good with a 35hp..... p.s. i am a kid...lol i no that any other kid could build these boats and would have lots of fun driving them....
